United Way of Washtenaw County is hiring in an AmeriCorps members to join our Community Impact team!

This is a full year, full time (averaging 40hrs/week) role at United Way of Washtenaw County which begins in September 2019 and continues through September 2020.  Members are required to serve no less than 1,700 hours during their one year, full time term.

Members will receive the following benefits of AmeriCorps service:

  • $13,992 annual living allowance;

  • Education Award of $6,095 upon successful completion of service;

  • Qualified student loan forbearance and interest accrual payments upon successful completion of service;

  • Childcare (if eligible); and

  • Health insurance.

In this role, members wills:

  • Play a central role in supporting our Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, a tax preparation program certified by the Internal Revenue Service which pairs trained volunteers alongside people with low- to moderate- incomes to file their taxes for free.

  • Provide logistical support to our Community Financial Education Workshops, designed to equip people with the money management tools needed to progress towards their financial goals.

  • Help our community implement a Show Me the Money Day Event, a statewide event in Michigan coordinated by CEDAM that kicks off tax season and promotes access to free financial resources, affordable financial products and services and financial education classes.

Job Qualifications
To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, you must:
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a valid Social Security number.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Have a valid email address.
  • Complete an application and answer assessment questions. (Some assessment questions are available in Spanish. However, an English proficiency test may also be required.)
  • Be registered with the Selective Service System or have a qualifying exemption, if you are a male born after Dec. 31, 1959.
  • Pass a Census-performed criminal background check and a review of criminal records, including fingerprinting.
  • Commit to completing training.
  • Be available to work flexible hours, which can include days, evenings, and/or weekends.
Most jobs require employees to:
  • Have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license, unless public transportation is readily available.
  • Have access to a computer with internet and an email account (to complete training).
