ANN ARBOR, MI (July 23, 2020)- United Way of Washtenaw County (UWWC) has invested $90,000 through its COVID-19 Community Recovery Fund. The Recovery Fund was launched after the close of United Way’s Community Relief Fund to continue meeting the critical and emergent needs of populations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, support individuals who have experienced a loss in income and/or employment as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and ensure continuity of community supports and services to children and youth.
Organizations that received funding are: Children’s Literacy Network, Washtenaw Area Council for Children, Stand with Trans, Girls on the Run Southeastern Michigan, The Family Learning Institute, and Nonprofit Enterprise at Work. UWWC will continue to focus on longer term recovery strategies in response to evolving community needs over the coming months.
“We established the Recovery Fund because we recognized community needs related to COVID-19 are not going to go away anytime soon. United Way thought it was important to look out three to six months from now as children and youth return to school, people return to employment, and invest in those organizations who can help us collectively return to some semblance of a steady state.,” shared Bridget Healy, Vice President of Impact and Advocacy. “United Way is grateful to the donors who responded quickly and generously to create significant, equitable and meaningful impact.”
Donations are still being accepted for the Recovery Fund and can be made at uwgive.org/covid-19-recovery-fund.
