Legacy Giving

What is the Legacy Society?

Washtenaw County has a history of being a great place to live. United Way is committed to building the health of our community now and in the future. Your planned gift through the Legacy Society supports ongoing initiatives that address the most pressing needs, strengthening Washtenaw County for years to come.
You don’t need to be a millionaire to give a gift with impact. Whether you’d like to donate hundreds, or hundreds of thousands, we make it easy. There are several gift arrangements to choose from that will help you provide for your family and support our work in Washtenaw County.
When you make a planned gift to United Way, you join with other civic-minded individuals committed to perpetuating the health of our community. The principal of the planned gift is invested and kept in perpetuity. A small portion of the earnings are used each year to offset administration costs.

Options for Making a Planned Gift

It is important to carefully consider a number of key factors when determining if making a planned gift is right for you, such as its purpose, what assets are most appropriate to use in funding the gift, the gift's timing, its effect on income tax and estate tax planning, and its effect on your family members and friends.
When considering your charitable goals and objectives, we strongly encourage you to seek the counsel of your legal, tax or financial advisor before finalizing any gift intention.

Planned Gifts can be made in numerous ways, including:

  • Bequests
  • Cash
  • Appreciated Securities
  • Charitable Gift Annuity
  • Life Insurance
  • Donor Advised Funds
  • Donor Pooled Income Funds
