Homelessness and Housing
Seven United Way funded agencies are working to ensure that:
- quality outreach
- homeless prevention
- emergency shelter
- transitional housing
- and housing with supportive services are available for local individuals and families at risk of homelessness
United Way recognizes the complexity of this collaborative work and believes that no single agency can solve all the homelessness challenges in Washtenaw County. Agencies have recommended that a portion of United Way funding be combined with other local funds to create a resource pool to address the multitude of issues that arise from homelessness.
In a twelve month period, agencies reported that your United Way investment leveraged over $5 million in direct related services last year towards the issues of homelessness.
“4,000 individuals in Washtenaw County experience the isolating fear of homelessness each night. 50 % of those individuals are parents who face numerous hardships, which prevented them from providing a stable home for their children. There is an irreplaceable value that comes from offering a helping hand. Empower your neighbors in need with a gift to United Way of Washtenaw County because we cannot do this alone. We must come together as a community by funding intensive intervention and prevention services for those in need, allowing individuals and families to reclaim their lives.“
