Early Childhood Education and Care

The Early Childhood Care and Education Task Force received United Way resources to address the following key priorities in our county:

  • affordable, accessible childcare, for low income families
  • support for families in transition including homeless families
  • multilingual materials for the parents of non English speaking preschool children promoting readiness for school
  • childcare training for providers
  • support for children with challenging behavior and cultural differences

Every dollar of your United Way investment into quality early childhood education programs can save society $17–as a result of savings in education and social expenditures, combined with gains in productivity.

"Agencies working in our community in early childhood care and education have a long history of working together cooperatively and as partners. Through the lead agency process the United Way provided an opportunity for us to address some of the most important gaps in services and funding this year. We are particularly grateful for the opportunity to support childcare scholarships designed to help families unable to afford a quality pre-school program, and the chance to translate a lot of our outreach materials around Head Start and the State of Michigan funded Great Start Readiness program, into Spanish, Arabic and Chinese."
