Early Childhood Education and Care
The Early Childhood Care and Education Task Force received United Way resources to address the following key priorities in our county:
- affordable, accessible childcare, for low income families
- support for families in transition including homeless families
- multilingual materials for the parents of non English speaking preschool children promoting readiness for school
- childcare training for providers
- support for children with challenging behavior and cultural differences
Every dollar of your United Way investment into quality early childhood education programs can save society $17–as a result of savings in education and social expenditures, combined with gains in productivity.
Did you know that a child's knowledge of the alphabet in kindergarten is one of the most significant predictors of what that child's 10th grade reading ability will be? The early childhood organizations in Washtenaw County funded by United Way offer stimulating activities to low-income children that will prepare each child for future success. I encourage you to invest in Washtenaw County's children with a gift to United Way.”
