UNITED WAY PARTNERS TO INCREASE CAPACITY IN THE ROTATING SHELTER

The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, a funded United Way agency and lead partner in United Way's efforts to address homelessness and housing issues, has expanded the 2010 capacity of the warming center during our coldest winter months by operating the Rotating Shelter Program.

This year, through financial assistance from the City of Ann Arbor and the DDA and the addition of 8 new churches, the shelter is able to double the capacity of the Rotating Shelter Program. Over this winter 24 faith-based organizations collectively are hosting up to 50 individuals each night, providing a bed at their facility.

United Way of Washtenaw County has provided a one-time $2,800 grant to the Ann Arbor Community Center to make sure transportation was available to get individuals to these various churches. The center partnered with the Shelter Association to coordinate the much needed transportation support and resources. United Way is pleased to be contributing in this small but critical way.
